Take Note! (2012)

Nosco, noscere, novi, notus: an uncertain etymology, to be sure, but some a suggestive one. To take note is to notice -- which, in turn, sets us on the path of knowing. It was such thirst for knowledge about the nature of the note that brought together participants from November 1-2, 2012, for Radcliffe's Take Note conference. On the first day, attendees were given the opportunity to visit key Harvard sites working on both the past, present, and future of note-taking as a practice. The following day, scholars of history, media studies, computer science, and literature assembled to ponder over the role of notes in their own academic labors.
