UCLA/Getty Conservation Lecture September 30 - Dr. Spencer Crew

I am pleased to invite you to a lecture by  Dr. Spencer Crew on Wednesday September 30, from 11:00 to 12:00 (PST). This is the inaugural lecture of the UCLA/Getty Conservation Program Distinguished Speaker Series. It will launch our public series with the aim of highlighting lecturers and conversations with leaders in the field of conservation, nationally and globally.

Dr. Crew is the Acting Director of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Before his most recent assignment, he was the Clarence J. Robinson Professor of History at George Mason University. He served as president of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center for six years and worked at the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution for twenty years. Nine of those years, he served as the director of NMAH. At each of those institutions, he sought to make history accessible to the public through innovative and inclusive exhibitions and public programs.

For this event, Dr. Crew will speak on “History, Memory and Conservation: Preserving the Past for Future Generations.” I am thrilled and honored to be featuring such an accomplished academic leader to speak about conservation from a perspective that meets the national moment we are experiencing, and I hope you are able to attend. Though this lecture will be virtual, we plan for to it be no less engaging for our guests.
