COGUT Institute for the Humanities at Brown University: Campus Highlight: Tara Nummedal on Collaborative Humanities
The open-access publication of Furnace and Fugue by Brown University faculty member Tara Nummedal and independent scholar Donna Bilak is a milestone for Brown University’s Digital Publications Initiative, which is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
Furnace and Fugue is the digital edition of Michael Maier's Atalanta fugiens (1618), complete with images of the original emblem book, translations into English, musical transcriptions, sound recordings, and scholarly essays. Tara Nummedal also recently taught a collaborative humanities graduate seminar on premodern art-science with History colleague Harold Cook and in partnership with faculty at the University of Minnesota. She speaks with us about her collaborative work.
