About This Event
Through the generosity of family and friends of John J. Burns, Jr. ’53 (1931-2017), Burns Library recently purchased a 16th-century Spanish Jesuit manuscript. Previously unknown to scholars, it contains unwitnessed variations of foundational Jesuit texts, including the Constitutions and Ignatius of Loyola’s Spiritual Exercises.

Burns Library has also acquired an extremely rare second edition copy of the Spiritual Exercises printed in Portugal in 1553 that includes an unusual inscription.

The program will include remarks on these rare and remarkable volumes by Institute for Advanced Jesuit Studies Research Associates Barton Geger, SJ and Cristiano Casalini.
