North Bennet Street School will celebrate the opening of an international bookbinding exhibit, Heroic Works, with presentations by two esteemed fellows of Designer Bookbinders.
9:30 am
Sue Doggett will offer an informal, illustrated presentation about her approach to design binding, including a look at a recent commission binding of Lac de Pleurs. This presentation will include samples, a discussion of design, and plenty of Q&A.
Noon
Lester Capon will present an illustrated lecture entitled "Extreme Bookbinding."
This talk about the ongoing work preserving the Garima Gospels, a sixth century manuscript and the earliest known book in Ethiopia, will also include a description of work done on two 15th century vellum fans... all undertaken in the rock hewn churches of Northern Ethiopia. Lester will discuss the environment and unusual working conditions encountered.

The 3rd International Bookbinding Exhibition from Designer Bookbinders in the UK, this exhibition of bindings showcases the work of some of the best bookbinders worldwide.
