Interesting Stuff! Techniques and Approaches to Research with Paper. (Panel Discussion with Jen Bervin (Indipendent Artist), Deidre Lynch (Harvard), Nora Rosengarten (Harvard), Corinna Zeltsman (Princeton)
Date and Time
Location
Please join us for a panel discussion on interdisciplinary research that attends to the materiality of paper. Bringing together artists, conservators, and scholars from a variety of disciplines, "Interesting Stuff!" will foster a conversation about the unavoidable, bedeviling, and fascinating fibrous stuff of paper.
Please register in advance for this meeting. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
Speakers will include:
Jen Bervin (Independent Artist)
Deidre Lynch (Harvard, English)
Nora Rosengarten (Harvard, History of Art and Architecture)
Corinna Zeltsman (Princeton, History)
There are also a very limited number of spots available for a demonstration on fiber identification beforehand. At the Weissman Preservation Center, Debora Mayer and Kelli Piotrowski will guide us through the process of looking at papers with the emphasis on the plant sources they are made from. Participants will be able to handle different types of papers, examine paper surfaces and see images of fibers taken with optical microscopy. They will also share the process of Identifying paper fibers with microscopy. Please fill out this form if you are interested in attending the demonstration. It will run from 10-11.30 am on 30 September.
Sponsored by the Andrew W. Mellon Society of Fellows in Critical Bibliography at the Rare Book School and Harvard Library.
