The Katherine Small Gallery is at 108 Beacon Street in Somerville, and the first exhibit is in Ivan Chermayeff: Mostly Early Covers. Ivan Chermayeff was one of the most celebrated graphic designers of the last sixty years. His logos for the MBTA, New England Aquarium, and WGBH will be recognizable to every Bostonian—and his logos for Mobil Oil, Chase Bank, NBC, and the Smithsonian will be pretty familiar, too. But before all that, designing book covers for New Directions, Vintage, and i.e. The Cambridge Review, was his daily work.
The show is up through August 4.
