Botanical illustrations convey precise scientific details about plants. They can inspire awe with their beauty as well as expressing cultural and religious significance. Covering over 500 years, ten illustrated botanical books from Houghton Library collections demonstrate an adherence to accuracy coupled with the remarkable skill of the artisans in bringing the natural world to life. These books complement the rich collections of the Arnold Arboretum and Harvard's Botany Libraries, which hold rare volumes and archives with original artwork.

This exhibition was curated by Peter X. Accardo, Scholarly and Public Programs Librarian.
