Writing the Oxford Illustrated History of the Book
You are most warmly invited to an on-line event sponsored by the Cambridge Project for the Book Trust Friday 2nd October 19.30 BST (=2:30pm Eastern)
Contributors to the just-published Oxford Illustrated History of the Book (preview video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vliqt4RRZJ8) will discuss their experience of planning and writing the volume:
How important is it to define what a book is? What are the merits and pitfalls of a global history of the book? How do the geographical and linguistic divisions of this History relate to other comparative elements of content, form and reception (among other issues)? What were the individual challenges faced by contributors in writing about their particular period or region?
The volume contributors joining us for the discussion are Barbara Crostini (Uppsala), Goran Proot (Milan), Ann Blair (Harvard), Cynthia Brokaw (Brown), David Rundle (Kent), Jeffrey Schnapp (Harvard), Sheila Blair (Boston), Jonathan Bloom (Boston), Jeffrey Freedman (Yeshiva)
