Joseph Adelman argues that printers—artisans who mingled with the elite but labored in a manual trade—used their commercial and political connections to directly shape Revolutionary political ideology and mass mobilization. Moving through the era of the American Revolution to the war’s aftermath, this history details the development of the networks of printers and explains how they contributed to the process of creating first a revolution and then the new nation.

	Address

	Massachusetts Historical Society

	1154 Boylston Street

	Boston, MA 02215-3695

	Tel: 617.536.1608

	Fax: 617.859.0074

	Website: https://www.masshist.org/
