DESCRIPTION:<p class="x_MsoNormal">	<span>Our next Re-thinking Translation seminar will focus on “<strong>Arabic Literary Translation between Politics and Archive,</strong>” and will take place on Thursday, November 29, at 5 pm in the Barker Center, Room 133.  </span></p><p class="x_MsoNormal">	<span> </span></p><p class="x_MsoNormal">	<span>We are delighted to have two speakers for this session<strong>.  Max Weiss</strong> (Department of History, Princeton University) will present on <strong>“(non-Arab) Men Translating (Arab) Women,</strong><span style="color:black">” <strong>examining books by women writers dealing with particularly sensitive issues</strong>; while <strong>Luke Leafgren</strong> (Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, Harvard University) will speak about his current translation project, <strong>Shalash the Iraq, a collection of 70 blog posts from 2005-2006 by an anonymous writer living in Baghdad. </strong> Max’s most recent translations include works by Dunya Mikhail, Nihad Sirees (<em>States of Passion</em>, winner of an English Pen award) and Samar Yazbek; and he is currently translating Alawiya Sobh, <em>So This is What Love Is</em>, for Seagull Books.  Luke has translated several novels from Arabic, including Muhsin Al-Ramli's <em>The President's Gardens</em>, winner of a PEN Translates Award, and Shahad Al Rawi's <em>The Baghdad Clock</em>, which won the Edinburgh International Book Festival's "First Book Award."</span></span></p><p class="x_MsoNormal">	<span> </span></p><p class="x_MsoNormal">	<span>Please join us for this interesting and important discussion.</span></p><p class="x_MsoNormal">	<span> </span></p><p class="x_MsoNormal">	<span>With best wishes,</span></p><p class="x_MsoNormal">	<span>Stephanie Sandler and Sandra Naddaff</span></p><p class="x_MsoNormal">	<span>co-Chairs, Re-thinking Translation</span></p>
