    Sort    Sort    **About This Event**  
Through the generosity of family and friends of John J. Burns, Jr. ’53 (1931-2017), Burns Library recently purchased a 16th-century Spanish Jesuit manuscript. Previously unknown to scholars, it contains unwitnessed variations of foundational Jesuit texts, including the *Constitutions* and Ignatius of Loyola’s *Spiritual Exercises*.  
  
Burns Library has also acquired an extremely rare second edition copy of the *Spiritual Exercises* printed in Portugal in 1553 that includes an unusual inscription.  
  
The program will include remarks on these rare and remarkable volumes by Institute for Advanced Jesuit Studies Research Associates **Barton Geger, SJ** and **Cristiano Casalini.**
