Come experience a Quiet Fire Improvisation in Typography & Sound weekend session. We will fuse the handcraft of metal typographic composition with improvisational music and sound notation to create a hand printed, limited edition score.

We will be working on creating an improvisational piece (single or several page), using sophisticated spacing techniques to fit varied size types onto line or page. Since it will involve improv, we will be receptive to the moment, and move to whatever direction the work takes us. We will critique the direction the design is going and make changes.

To emphasize the unexpected directions creative work can take as a group, we will also engage in improvisational music making as a small group…with awareness on the in-motion state of listening and intuitive gravitation toward the next sound.

This will inform our work for the next day. We will participate in group discussions about this creative process at intervals throughout the week. #

Instructor/Leaders: Julia Ferrari & [Gahlord Dewald](https://gahlorddewald.com)

Schedule: The first night we will have an orientation meeting & start the improvisatory music, followed by a full day(s) of typographic and musical work sessions (setting type, designing the form, printing, as well as music making). Last day: a.m. critique and clean up.

Schedule:

5 day: Monday 6-9 pm, Tuesday thru Thursday 9-5, Friday 9-noon.
