George Parker Winship Workshop Brooke Palmieri - "A Queer View of History: Finding Gender Non-Conformity in the Library" Houghton Library presents two hands-on workshops by Brooke Palmieri on "A Queer View of History: Finding Gender Non-Conformity in the Library." The rise of queer political struggle in the 20th century relies upon cooperation across different identities: for instance lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, agender. Yet as these terms are more recent in their use and meaning, tracing their longer history in archives and special collections is sometimes difficult. This workshop will link up more recent highlights in LGBTQ+ history from the Houghton's collections items spanning the past 400 years, in hopes of providing students with the tools and vocabulary for understanding and researching the much wider history of gender nonconformity

Brooke Sylvia Palmieri is a writer, educator, and bookseller. In the summer of 2018 she completed her PhD at University College London, “Compelling Reading: The Circulation of Quaker Texts 1650-1700,” which focused on the relationship between the archives Quakers maintained to document their experiences of persecution, and the collectively written works they published based on those experiences. She is the editor of Printing History, the Journal of the American Printing History Association ([printinghistory.org](https://www.google.com/url?q=http://printinghistory.org&sa=D&ust=1539118178271000&usg=AFQjCNEF_m1MlsMNxke3JDAvzD6pnlch3A)), and the proprietor of Camp Books ([campbooks.biz](https://www.google.com/url?q=http://campbooks.biz&sa=D&ust=1539118178271000&usg=AFQjCNFcxH6Ks76wdol3HQkXT6cyWpIK5w)), a travelling bookshop that specializes in LGBTQ+ history.
