The need for accessibility in libraries and archives requires a delicate balance between preservation and making materials available and understandable to a large audience with diverse needs. Strategies for promoting access with responsible stewardship in libraries and archives was the focus of a two-day conference at the Indiana Historical Society entitled [ “Off the Shelf: Access and Preservation in Libraries and Archives,”](https://ccaha.org/events/shelf-access-and-preservation-libraries-and-archives) sponsored by the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts (CCAHA). Topics included security issues in public access, digitization as access, and increasing understanding of collections stewardship. Attendee Lauren Telepak will share key takeaways.
